Project Overview
This Florida beach vacation rental living room began as a blank, uninspired space — clean but forgettable, and far from the relaxed, memory‑making atmosphere the owners envisioned for their family and guests. As a high‑traffic vacation rental just steps from the beach, the room needed to do much more than look nice. It had to photograph beautifully for listings, withstand sandy feet and the wear of renter life, and offer enough comfort and seating for a family of six to unwind after long days in the sun.
The owners also wanted the space to feel personal. This home doubles as their family getaway, so the design needed to balance durability with heart. Large custom canvases of their children at the beach became the emotional anchor — a reminder that this is a place where real memories are made.
The design direction centered on a casually coastal aesthetic: soft blues, warm peach tones, airy neutrals, and natural textures that echo the shoreline without feeling themed. A deep, comfortable sectional and ottoman created a true gathering zone for movies and games. A striped accent chair, coastal‑inspired pillows, and a patterned rug added layers of interest and movement. Durable herringbone flooring ensured the space could handle sand, spills, and high turnover while still feeling elevated.
Lighting and styling completed the transformation. A modern ceiling fan, adjustable spotlights, and a curated bookcase filled with beach reads and games made the room feel both functional and welcoming. The wallpaper and accents introduced depth and personality, giving the space the visual life it was missing.
The final result is a living room that feels relaxed, resilient, and ready for connection — a place where guests can stretch out, play, read, watch movies, and settle into vacation mode. It’s a space that photographs beautifully, lives comfortably, and reflects the owners’ love of the coast and their family. A casually coastal retreat designed for real life and unforgettable stays.

Beach Rental Living Room Overview
Project goal: Transform a lifeless living room into a warm, coastal-inspired space that photographs beautifully, withstands rental wear and tear, and feels like a true retreat for both guests and the owner’s family.
Property context: Florida-based vacation rental serving families and beachgoers. The space doubles as a personal getaway for the owners, so it needed to balance durability with personality.
Scope of work: Living room redesign including furniture selection, layout planning, flooring recommendations, and styling. Services included design consultation, moodboard development, and sourcing guidance.
The Design Challenge
Pain points: The living room lacked visual interest and emotional warmth. Existing finishes weren’t durable enough for sandy feet and high guest turnover. The layout didn’t support movie nights or family connection.
Opportunities: Create a space that feels relaxed, coastal, and inviting — with durable finishes, cozy seating for six, and styling that reflects the owners’ love of the beach and family life.
Discovery + Insights
Questionnaire highlights:
Owners wanted the space to feel more alive and welcoming.
Comfort and durability were key — especially for sandy feet and movie nights.
They envisioned a space that could host games, reading, stretching, and memory-making.
Personal touches like large beach canvases of their children were non-negotiable.
Owner priorities:
Aesthetic: coastal but not cliché.
Function: seating for six, durable flooring, and flexible layout.
Emotional: a space that feels like home for their family and a retreat for guests.
Guest experience goals:
Guests should feel relaxed, comfortable, and inspired to make memories.
The space should invite connection — through movies, games, beach-themed books, and cozy lounging.
It should photograph beautifully to support rental bookings while feeling authentic and personal once guests arrive.
Concept Development
The Casually Coastal Living Room was designed to feel like a breath of fresh air — a space that welcomes sandy feet, movie nights, and memory-making. The concept leaned into soft coastal tones, durable textures, and family-forward styling, creating a living room that feels both elevated and easygoing.
The name reflects the vibe: casual enough for game night, coastal enough to echo the beach just outside, and layered with personal touches that make the space feel like home.
